Sloan got into her car and drove to the hospital. It was only a few blocks away. The sun was out and it was a warm day, but still she was shaking. What she had just done, what she had just been through…looking back, now, it could have gone either way. It ended up going exactly as she thought it would, but it could have taken a downturn easily and quickly. She was glad to have been able to help Senor Martinez, and she feared now for his well-being. She would call him at his home tonight.
Tonight. Oh, boy. She knew what tonight would be about. Vincent was going to have to learn to trust that she knew what she was doing, and that she was going to do it, no matter what he said. They would have a huge fight, to be sure, and then they would make up and all would be well. Once she explained things to him, once she told him of her thought process through the whole thing, he’d understand. They’d still argue about it, but he’d see the light, he’d see it her way, at the end of the day. And if he thought for one minute that she was going to allow him to…to…spank her, well…he had another thing coming!
She arrived at the hospital just in time to change and see her patient in pre-op before the surgery. It was scheduled for 3, but she could see that things were already falling behind. She’d be lucky to be in by four and out by six. Maybe they’d go out tonight.
Vince couldn’t concentrate for the rest of the day. He had been so angry at her that he’d come very close to turning her over his knee right in the clinic. And that’s all Josh Brady needed to hear…or see. But Vince Gerardi wasn’t angry anymore. He realized that anger got him nowhere with Sloan. She turned it back on him and he lost the battle every time. He would win this battle, however. And he would win it with resolve and determination. She would see what she had done was wrong, and she would submit to the spanking she had coming. He went over the whole scenario in his mind as he sat at his desk finishing up paperwork. It would be different this time. He would calmly explain things, and then tell her what he expected her to do next. She would present herself to him and he would humble her, then he would love her.
And when it was all over, she would thank him for caring. And that was what he looked most forward to.

The surgery did not take as long as she thought it would, and so by the time she chatted with her patient’s family and changed her clothes, it was not quite six when she got into her car and headed for home. She called Vince.
“Hey.”
“Hi, there,” he said. He sounded chipper. That was a good sign.
“I’m on my way. Are you home?”
“No. I’m leaving soon.”
“OK. What should we do for dinner?”
“We’ll figure it out, OK? Are the kids out? Did you talk to Carol…is that her name? Jeff’s mom?”
“Carly…and yes, I talked to her.”
“Good.”
“Are you still mad at me?”
“No, baby. I’m not mad.”
Whew! “Good.”
“But we ARE going to talk.”
“What does that mean?”
“I think you know what it means. Get your head wrapped around it, Sloan.”
“Yeah? Wrap your head around this!” She flipped him the bird, which he didn’t see, and then she hung up on him. That, he got loud and clear. Ooooh! The nerve! Lulling her into a false sense of security!
“We ARE going to talk!” she mimicked out loud.
We’ll see about that!
Dinner! That should be the last thing on her mind! Was she stupid, or completely clueless! Now he was mad! And she hung up on him! He took a couple of deep breaths. He needed to calm down before he got home. Wrap your head around THIS? Was she kidding? He envisioned the middle finger rising into the air. He knew her! Oh, yes he did!
We’ll see, lady! We’ll just see!
She drove up and opened the garage door with the automatic door opener. She could see that Vince wasn’t home yet. And then it suddenly dawned on her. He didn’t live here. She could lock him out! But she didn’t like that at all. She wanted him to feel like this was his home, too, because, marriage or not, she wasn’t moving. She wanted him here, and in her life.
She got out and closed the garage door, then went in through the kitchen. She tossed her purse and keys down on the kitchen counter and went immediately to the wine closet and pulled out a nice bottle of Cab. Thinking better of it, she put it back, pulled the Bombay Sapphire down, along with the vermouth and the olives, and set about making herself and very, VERY dry martini.
She poured the gin into the steel shaker, along with plenty of ice, and shook it for a full three minutes. She poured a few drops of vermouth into the martini glass, swirled it around, then dumped the remaining liquid into the sink. When she thought the gin was cold enough she poured the chilled liquid into the glass, speared two blue-cheese stuffed olives onto a pick, poured a few drops of olive juice into the glass, took a sip, and declared to herself that she had made the perfect ‘dirty’ martini.
She took herself and her dirty martini upstairs. She went into the bathroom and took off her clothes and turned on the shower. What a day! She had no idea when he would be arriving…at least a half an hour, she guessed. That would give her enough time to shower and dress in the armor she’d rented for just these occasions…hey, that was an idea! She’d have to do that! Why make it easy for him! If he insisted on dealing with her in this way she would certainly not make it easy for him! That would be foolish, wouldn’t it? Perhaps she could get to a costume rental place before he arrived. Then wouldn’t he be surprised! No matter what he had in store for her he’d have to work at it. Ha! She could picture him walking in and seeing her dressed in head-to-toe armor, like a knight! Good one! Shit! If she’d only thought of this on the way home! But she didn’t have enough time now. OK, let’s see…what else did she have? She washed herself as she thought about all the things she could wear, or do, to get him to loosen up. Short of running down the beach and stealing a boat to get away she couldn’t think of a thing. She turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. She took the big, fluffy towel off the hook and dried herself off then wrapped the towel around herself above the chest. She turned around and put her foot up on the bathtub. I’m going to need a Pedi soon, she thought. She turned around and went into the bedroom. She knew exactly what he had in mind for her when he got home. And she wondered if, somehow…hum. She opened the closet and stood there pondering.
And then it hit her.
